Welcome to THEeePC

Hi folks, I'm building THeePC because, frankly I am seriously impressed with this little computer.  To often these days we buy technology for the sake of the marketing. Yet sometimes, something comes along and reminds us that - quite franky- we can do all we need with less speed and 'gigs'  and more innovation. in my opinion the EeePC is one of those things.

Now, who am I ? - well I am mostly this guy, part IT guy, part creative monkey. Having worked for the last 14 years in education (which supposedly is one target market for the EeePC) I can tell you don't bother. Education, at least in Australia, is unfortunately so entrenched that taking an innovative step is, well, really hard. Even somehting as simple as OpenOffice vs. Microsoft Office is viewed with huge suspicion - people don't like change - educators even less so. So you can imagine what a Linux based notebook will be seen as - somewhere in the same group as the anti-christ in a lot of the places I know of - pity.

Now if they actually tried the little bugger - worked out that it's stable as a rock and weighs less than any modern chemistry textbook (more on that later 1) now THEN we would be getting somewhere.

In any case - if you happen to have stumbled onto this site - bookmark it and hopefully we'll have the opportunity to talk again!

1  If any textbook publishers are reading this please please please start producing the books in e-book format. There is nothing more sad/annoying than seeing  junior school students carry books with them in bags that are necessarily as wide as they are tall!  Think of the opportunity for remixing content! Staff, students and parents would love you!
